This week, we have the pleasure of welcoming Nathan from The Songwriting Charity to help us record our leavers' songs (to be unveiled in our Leavers' Assembly at the end of the year). Did you know it is 200 years today since Queen Victoria was born? We looked at her life a little in year 6, creating posters about what we found out. This week, the boys' and girls' cricket teams represented the school at the district competition at Benfleet Cricket Club. Both teams performed excellently amongst tough competition from other schools. The boys came in 3rd place and the girls came in 1st - going forward to the county final later this term. Well done!
As part of our David Hockney art project, we have created collaborative pieces of art work in class. In music, we have studied the blues over the last few months. Last week, we thought we would incorporate the SATs into our music by creating blues based SATs lyrics. To help us to focus, we spent the afternoon outside. As you can imagine, this made it much easier to practise! As part of our art work linked to David Hockney, we studied the nature around us, creating sketches of leaves, flowers and greenery which we found in our school grounds.
Our year 6s were well represented at the Rayleigh Town Council Awards last night. We are very proud of them for all they have achieved!
As part of our Geography unit of work, Year 6 have been developing group-projects where they have desinged, located and planned to build new accomodations at National Parks in the USA. These accommodations had to include eco-features to protect and preserve the environment. Today, we presented our work and used an informative and persuasive speech to try to win the competition. |
